Wimple with his trophy
Congratulations to Mr Gareth Wimple of East Finchley High (pictured above) for his historic third consecutive victory in the National Maths Teachers Pun Competition! This year's winning word play came towards the start of a lesson on the properties of circles, when Mr Wimple wrote on the board "It's Easy as PI" - stimulating his fifty-three pupils to esctatic laughter. The Chairman of the Judging Committee Sir Nolan Hoog described the standard of entries in this year's competition as "the highest ever", adding that he was "very optimistic about the future of arithmetical humour in the country".
The runners-up were Mrs June Westcott of No Man's Land Comprehensive with "Nought can (not) divide us" and Mr Brian Kettle with 'Triggernometry" (while teaching ballistics theory at East Walthamstow Pupil Referral Unit).
