Sentamu: "astounding"

The soon to be enthroned Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu yesterday astounded his congregation in York Cathedral by speaking in tongues.

Witnesses report that Sentamu appeared to enter a trance before he intoned a string of inspired but puzzling sentences.

Among them were, "The moment you make your laws so tough, even the most law abiding will say, this is a chance to break them," and, "England is the mother of arguing that if you want a change of government you vote them in or you vote them out."

Theologians were today poring over a transcription of the Archbishop's speech. "The last time this kind of thing happened was at Pentecost 781 BC," said one, adding somewhat needlessly, "The technical term for it is glossolalia."
